Introducing NIRCO’s Justice Impacted Families Project: Supporting Families, Transforming Lives

NIRCO is proud to announce the launch of the Justice Impacted Families Project, a groundbreaking initiative designed to provide comprehensive support for individuals and families impacted by the justice system. Whether affected by the juvenile system, court system, Department of Corrections (DOC), county jail, or Department of Children and Families (DCFs), this project addresses the unique challenges faced by these families with compassion and purpose.

Comprehensive Services to Empower Families

The Justice Impacted Families Project offers a wide range of resources to meet the needs of parents, children, and youth affected by incarceration and justice involvement. Key services include:

  • Substance Use Treatment

  • Wellness and Recovery Support (addressing trauma and other recovery needs)

  • Employment and Housing Assistance

  • Youth Development Programs

  • Family Reunification Support

  • Recidivism Reduction Services

This project emphasizes a trauma-informed, strength-based recovery plan tailored to each family’s unique circumstances. The objective is to serve 75 individuals and families (primarily women with one or more children), ensuring they receive the tools and support needed to rebuild their lives.

Closing the Gaps in Youth Development and Reentry Services

Recognizing critical service gaps, this project prioritizes mental health, recovery, and family support for parents reentering society after incarceration. It also focuses on youth development, addressing the needs of children aged 6-17 and young adults aged 18+, with particular emphasis on early adolescence (ages 12-14) and adolescent years.

By bridging these gaps, the Justice Impacted Families Project provides families with the resources to heal, grow, and thrive while reducing recidivism and promoting long-term stability.

Lived Experience and Community Connection

A core strength of this initiative is its dedicated project staff, all of whom have lived experience and deep roots in the community. This unique perspective ensures culturally relevant, empathetic, and effective support for justice-impacted families.

Building Stronger Futures Together

The Justice Impacted Families Project is more than a program—it’s a commitment to empowering families, restoring connections, and fostering resilience. By addressing mental health, recovery, and family needs, NIRCO is helping to create brighter futures for individuals reentering society and the children and families affected by the justice system.

Together, we can break the cycle, strengthen families, and build a stronger, more supportive community.
